HELLGATE Controversy & More!

The New Year is certainly off to an eventful start!

January was a wild mix of it all! Hot and cold. From a firey controversy on my podcast over the nature of hell, to a historic snowstorm in Nashville, moving further out in the country of Tennessee, a trip back to California, and more!

Ice coated most of Tennessee for several days and temperatures dropped to 5 degrees. Exploding trees and power outages galore!

Meanwhile, in southern California, you’d think it was spring! Lime green grass and sunshine as far as the eye can see. What a difference a 3 hour flight can make.

Speaking of heat, you may have heard about this firey discussion…

In a recent episode of the Kirk Cameron Show, my son, James asked me a question about hell and what the Bible really teaches about it. These honest questions and open conversation sparked quite a firestorm online, with some calling me a heretic, and others echoing our questions and affirming our conversation. It was clear a deeper dive needed to be done on this topic, which lead me to filming HELLGATE: a roundtable discussion with four faithful, brilliant scholars on the topic of hell. We sat in a circle, with an open Bible in the middle, and explored every angle of this topic. Watch for yourself here!

Southern Storm “Fern”

Nashville was hit with a historic storm this month, covering the entire city with a thick layer of ice. It looked like Narnia outside and was beautiful… except for all the exploding trees… yes, literally exploding from the inside out because of frozen sap/water and branches weighed down by all the ice. Pretty wild. Praying for all the people who were affected by this crazy weather across the country!

Takeaways and a special guest!

Every Monday, I get to share powerful, mindset-shifting testimonies from Takeaways, on TBN. I have the honor of meeting and interviewing many people whose faith and character I admire and respect. Recently, I got to have an extra special guest—my son Luke—sit across from me and share the ins and outs, blessings and struggles of his adoption story. I might be biased, but I have to say it was one of my favorite interviews to date. Luke shared candidly about his own adoption story into our family as well as the adoption ministry he started, Together As One. TGA equips families looking to adopt with the financial, emotional, and spiritual resources they need for the adoption process! I’m so proud of Luke and encouraged by what God is doing through Together As One. You can watch our conversation below!

Planting new, country roots

My wife and I recently bought a farmhouse further out in the country of Tennessee, with more acreage for some animals, a garden, and mostly for lots of future grandkids to run around and enjoy! One of my sons built us a firepit outside, and my dad and I built a mobile chicken coop for our egg-laying ladies. The move-in process is in full-swing, and we’re excited to really make it feel like home!

A switch I recommend to all my friends

A few years ago, my friends the Kendrick brothers told me about a biblical alternative to traditional health insurance that completely changed the game for me and my family. It’s easier on my bank account, operates based on godly principles, doesn’t restrict the doctors I can go to, and it is SO much more straightforward and uncomplicated than the traditional health insurance options.

I saw a video recently of a comedian humorously commenting on this very issue. It’s funny only because it’s tragically true! Watch below to see my reaction to her bit, and check out Christian Healthcare Ministries yourself to free yourself from the healthcare scam!

I’ll leave you with a quote I’ve been thinking about a lot this month from R.C. Sproul. Maybe it will speak to you the way it has spoken to me.

“God doesn’t want me to play with religion. He doesn’t want me to dabble in church. He wants me—body and soul.”

I pray that each of us would not “dabble” with our faiths this year, but that we would commit our whole selves—body and soul—to honoring God, loving one another, and bringing His kingdom to earth.

God bless you!
